I don't often keep up with reviews on books. My bad, I know. But I had to write a review on this one as soon as I finished it. I guess I sort of felt an affinity with the main character, who spent her entire life trying to please certain members of her family, but always falling short. The story brought tears to my eyes several times, because I could feel the complete desolation of that life. How sometimes, you just can't do anything to please those who should love you. It was heartbreaking at times, but the heroine rose above it all, and found pure joy in her life. Also, I used to raise hedgehogs when my kids were young, and it brought back all those fun times for me.
